A Reddit user “BitcoinHolderThankU” has Restored Access to 127 Bitcoins
“Holder” has restored access to 127 BTC that have been stored in the wallet since 2011
A Reddit user under the pseudonym BitcoinHolderThankU stated that he was able to restore access to 127 bitcoins that were stored in the wallet since 2011.
After regaining access, BitcoinHolderThankU sold all 127 BTC for $ 4.2 million:
“I spent a week figuring out how to safely sell such a large amount of Bitcoin at the lowest price (in terms of fees). I contacted several OTC markets and sold all 127 bitcoins at $ 33,439.02 per coin (minus 0.15% commission). The net amount was approximately $ 4.24 million.”
He claims to have earned bitcoins in 2011-2012 from surveys, watching videos, and completing random tasks to use the coins to buy in-game currency in the online game DarkOrbit. He noted that he did not lose access to the private keys, but simply forgot that he had stored them on an old laptop.
BitcoinHolderThankU said that it missed out on $ 1 million in additional profit because in just a few weeks the price of bitcoin exceeded $ 41,000. The user admitted that he “would not have sold all 127 bitcoins” if the same situation happened again.
“However, I have been hooking for 8-9 years, and this is much more than the vast majority of cryptocurrency users,” he added. “I would definitely do it differently if I was given a second chance.”
Most of the funds BitcoinHolderThankU plans to invest in the S&P 500:
“I do not want to repeat the fate of those people who won the lottery and lost everything in a matter of months/years.”
