US Capitol attackers received $500 thousand in bitcoins a month before the riot.
The analytical company Chainalysis found out that an unknown resident of France transferred 28 BTC to radical activists in early December. About $ 250 thousand in cryptocurrency were sent to the leader of the Groypers group, Nick Fuentes.
The US Capitol attackers received $ 500,000 worth of bitcoins a month before the riots, according to the Chainalysis service, which specializes in the development of software for analyzing transactions in the blockchain. The researchers found that on December 8, an unknown French programmer transferred 28 bitcoins to 22 crypto wallets, which belong primarily to far-right activists.
Of this amount, 13 bitcoins, or about $ 250 thousand, were received by Nick Fuentes, Chainalysis specified. He is the leader of the far-right Groypers group, attended a rally of supporters of Trump in Washington on January 6, and was also seen outside the Capitol building during the riots.
The company added that the cryptocurrency was also received by streamer Ethan Ralph and the organization VDARE, which opposes immigration to the United States. Other individuals who received bitcoins have not been identified. Chainalysis highlighted that cryptocurrency has become increasingly used to fund extremist groups as they disconnect from popular payment systems.
