20 year old Bitcoin millionaire helps fund a school by sending cryptocurrency through space

Share

This one’s for all the haters of cryptocurrencies. Erik Finman, the youngest self-made Bitcoin millionaire, helped a school raise funds by sending cryptocurrency to a remote region in Africa via space.

Finman sent $1,000 worth of Metal (MTL) through a “space drop” to St. Mary School in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The school didn’t require any internet to receive funds, but rather an antenna to communicate with the satellite.
The school used the funds to repair the roof and construct benches and tables.
“We wanted to show that even in the most remote places that don’t have the most functional of infrastructure, money infrastructure, financial infrastructure, a crypto space drop could have a real use case”, Finman said.
Metal is a company in which Erik Finman has invested in. Metal’s flagship app is Metal Pay which is similar to Facebook Libra. In fact, Erik Finman calls Metal the Libra Killer. Erik Finman had helped launched one of the satellites which were used to send money to the St. Mary School.
